Dr. Richard D. Dickens, III
The New Metropolitan Baptist Church, located in the Upton community, has a history that dates back as far as 1922. Dr. Richard Dickens is the pastor of the New Metropolitan Baptist Church, and for the last 37 years the church has been his home. The church has several ministries and outreach efforts that serve the community. A few of these include the Clothing ministry, which distributes clothing on Saturday mornings, the Food Ministry, which provides meals three times a week and a tutorial ministry that meets once a week.
Pastor Dickens says his main focus is the church and its efforts.
An anointed man of God, the one accomplishment that Pastor Dickens is most proud of is his tenure at
"New Metropolitan", provided through and with God's grace,
And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
Galatians 6:9
He is proud to serve and to be serving his church and the community with such longevity. Even through the many transitions and changes that life and times often bring, he considers the church the source of a growing and changing ministry that serves a community in need.
Pastor Dickens is a man of faith and believes that faith is what will sustain Baltimore through its ups and downs as a city. If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2nd Chronicles 7:14
